With learning being taken online, I think it is fair to say it’s been a little bit harder to work on group assignments without anyone meeting in person. Being a first year student in college and not knowing anyone, it can also be hard to communicate with people you’ve never met before. Luckily for me, when working on my group assignment, everyone was quick to contact one another and a WhatsApp group chat was made.
After introducing ourselves, we began discussing what we wanted our project to be about. After changing the topic a few times, we eventually decided to create a Wiki article on Griffith College Limerick. Luckily for us, there was lots of information available online about the college. After deciding on which headings we were going to write on and split up, I decided to write about the facilities and services available at Griffith College in Limerick and the different courses they offer to undergraduates, postgraduates, and professionals.
In the process of writing my part of the assignment, I learned that Griffith College Limerick offers courses of blended learning and that there are many amenities in the area for students at the college, including bowling alleys and concert halls. I also learned from my group’s work that the founder of Griffith College is Professor Diarmuid Hegarty, who can speak many different languages, including Chinese and French, which I actually found very interesting.
Embedding an image on to the page was the hardest part of the project for me. We had a few issues with accessing the Wiki site, so once everyone had their pieces written, they were emailed to me to upload on to Wiki, where they were organised in an order previously agreed on. It took some time for me to understand exactly how the Wiki site works, but from working on the assignment, getting help from the Wiki information page, and from attending tutorials, I quickly learned how to edit our page, add references, and insert hyperlinks without any trouble.
Overall, I enjoyed working on this group project, even though we could not meet to work on it in person. We made a great group effort to complete the assignment and everyone was very happy with the finished product.
